How Can I Spot Scammers In Remotasks?

Remotasks is a great way to earn extra just by doing simple tasks at home. Moreover, our community-centered company culture means we use other platforms to encourage our fellow Remotaskers to get to know one another in the community!

With our communications platforms, we can hopefully instill a sense of family and community in our Remotaskers - most of which work in different countries and far away from each other.

Unfortunately, some scammers try to join the Remotasks platform to steal personal information or outright scam our fellow Remotaskers. If you spot anyone who seems suspicious, don’t hesitate to report them to a moderator or an admin immediately.

How can I spot scammers in Remotasks?

If you’re interested in joining Remotasks but are afraid of scammers, we do have some ways for you to check whether people you’re chatting with are legitimate members or if they’re scammers.

Remotaskers who are reading this can also use the tips below to spot scammers in the platform, especially if you’ve been asking some people regarding advice on tasks and other issues:

  1. Check if they have the appropriate roles and badges. If you’ve been chatting or conversing with a Remotasker about various issues - especially regarding payments and how to do tasks - it’s best if you make sure you’re talking with someone who knows what they’re talking about.
  • In our Discord server, you can see the various roles of members on the right of the screen and if you click the person’s display picture. People authorized to talk about payment should have the role of Support Admin and Support Staff.
  • In our Discord server, if you’re curious about how to do certain tasks properly, you need to talk to people with the roles: Community Moderators, Bootcamp Trainers, Remotasks Rockstar.
  • It’s still okay to talk to your friends - however if there are any issues that can affect your performance and pay, it’s best to raise your concerns to people with actual roles.
  1. Scammers ask you to sign-up for random forms. If you’ve been chatting with someone and they suddenly offer you to sign-up to a random form, avoid doing so. Remember, we place necessary forms in the appropriate announcements channels. And you should only rely on forms posted and announced by people with the appropriate roles and badges.
  2. Scammers ask for your payment information over chat. If someone says they’re part of our support staff and they’ve been asking you for your payment details, you might be dealing with a scammer. Remember, if you have any issues with payment, we strongly advise you file a ticket regarding this issue. However, we won’t ask for any payment information from you, such as your username and password in PayPal.

I spotted a scammer! What should I do?

If you’ve spotted a scammer on the platform, here are your best courses of action:

  1. Contact a moderator or an admin immediately. You can easily spot them by looking at their badges or designation once you click their name or their profile. You can also check the #announcements channel, as admins are the only ones allowed to put messages there.
  2. Contact a team leader. However, if you’re not sure if the person you’re talking to is a moderator or an admin, you can also approach your team leader for assistance.
  3. File a support ticket. You can also file a support ticket to report a person you think is a scammer. Our support team is always available to help, so you can expect a reply to your inquiry within the next 24-48 hours.

Can I still join Remotasks?

Of course! We have a great support system that encourages Remotasks to help one another. We also have active admins and moderators to help out Taskers from all over the world, so someone will always respond to your concerns.
