Tasking 101: How Do I Know Which Task Group To Choose?

Hey, Remotasker! If you’re new to Remotasks, chances are you’ve seen that we have quite a lot of categories or task groups you can choose from. We understand that having to choose a Project Type to train across these task groups can be quite overwhelming, so we want to make the process much easier for you. In this article, we’ll go through the major task groups so you can have a better idea what kind of Tasks each of them would cover.

What Are The Task Groups?

Remotaskers can do a wide variety of Tasks across various project types. While we assign different names and specific needs for each Tasks, they all generally fall under basic task groups. Here’s a quick rundown of each task group and what Remotaskers should expect to do when encountering each of them:

  • 2D Tasks: When we say 2D Tasks, we mean to say Tasks that need Remotasks to analyze 2D environments. These range from images, to a video or footage across a series of frames. In 2D Tasks, Remotaskers need to draw bounding boxes and label various objects to help AI identify what things exist inside that image. For instance, Remotaskers can look at traffic camera footage to help AI identify elements of traffic.
  • 3D Tasks: Unlike 2D Tasks, 3D Tasks need Remotaskers to analyze 3D environments. These usually come in the form of LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), which uses light to “see” images around a focal point. Remotaskers handling 3D Tasks usually need to check the 3D footage of a self-driving car prototype, which means putting bounding cuboids and identifying various objects around our prototype. We use 3D Tasks to help self-driving cars learn about traffic elements around it.
  • OCR Transcription: OCR, which stands for Optical Character Recognition, is a technology that makes use of techniques to understand printed text in images of menus and documents. When Remotaskers handle OCR Transcription Tasks, they’re usually given an image and they need to confirm what the text in the image says.
  • Categorization: When we look at various things, we tend to categorize them based on obvious things such as shape and color. Sometimes, we also categorize things based on more complex things such as what they’re made of, or their object type. This is why we can differentiate clothes or other objects. When we do Categorization Tasks, we identify objects based on specific keywords. With this data, AI and other smart assistants can use our knowledge to learn how we recognize things the way we do.
  • Comparison: While Categorization has us look at a specific object, Comparison will have us look at and compare two objects belonging to the same category. In turn, Comparison Tasks needs Remotaskers to identify the crucial difference between two objects, so AI and other smart assistants can understand the thought processes we’ve used.
  • Data Collection: In Data Collection Tasks, Remotaskers need to search the web and collect data about certain things. With the information we gather, AI and smart assistants can learn how to surf the internet better to retrieve useful results.

What Are Some Considerations?

Given that there’s a ton of task groups available for Remotaskers, choosing the right one at the moment can get difficult real fast, right? Thing is, Remotaskers may simply need some quick tips to identify which task groups they should handle first. Here are some considerations they may need to think about:

Do I need a lot of time to do it?

Are there many available Tasks?

Does this pay a lot

Here are some clarifications:

  • Why would the difficulty and time of task groups depend on the Project? The simplicity and the time needed to complete a Task under a Task Category can depend on the Project Type and Tasks themselves. Tasks with multiple frames or many points of consideration means Taskers need more time to think about the things they’re labelling. Some Taskers find this easier or more difficult, depending on their preference.
  • Why would available Tasks depend on demand? Some task groups have higher demand compared to others. For instance, since 3D Tasks tend to be more difficult, there are more 3D Tasks available compared to other task groups. Compared to the rest of the groups, 2D Tasks are more demand-dependent, as some 2D Tasks tend to be simpler or more challenging.
  • Why the 💰? Due to the many kinds of Projects under task groups, there isn’t any way to determine the exact pay they provide. In turn, we used 💰 to give a general estimate of how “profitable” these task groups can become based on what we’ve observed.
